I want to change the world!
Perhaps not the whole world, but the world of the small business owner. If only some of their peaks and troughs could be smoothed out; if they could have a helping hand in confronting some of their unexpected issues; if they could have tools available to them to assist in the growth of their worthwhile enterprise; if I can offer this support then my life is fulfilled and theirs has advanced.
That’s where I get my greatest motivation – seeing people who are risking everything battle for survival in the quest for something in which they have a true faith and battle for its growth and development.
As a business owner, for more years than I care to think about, who has experienced success and failure and as someone who is trusted by other business people to share experience and knowledge, I am privileged to be in this position. I have strong beliefs about what it takes to make a business successful and I have developed tools to assist in the process.
The business lives of these people have become my life.
I am married – a second time around – and have three adult children and two grand-children. I am immensely proud of my family. I love the company of friends, food, wine, music (jazz, classical and that from "my era"), cooking, reading, community and cricket.
This, and my work, is "my good life".
What John Matthew believes about small business
That the owner has risked many things that others take for granted;
That there is no guaranteed income or reward for the considerable effort that is required;
That often, the family home is on the line to support the business and its constituents;
That there is a dignity and self-respect that is earned;
That entire communities would be better places if there was an increased appreciation and respect for small business.
